Free Weather API FAQ
What counts as commercial use?
Freemium is for non-commercial use only: personal, school and research projects. Any use by or for a business, or any use that earns money directly or indirectly, is commercial and needs a paid plan.
Can I use the free API for a thesis or academic research?
Yes. You can use Freemium for academic research, as long as the project doesn't make money.
Can I use Freemium in a public app or website?
Yes, as long as it doesn't make money. The 2,000 calls a day are shared by everyone who uses your app.
What happens if I make more than 2,000 calls in a day?
The API refuses further calls until the count resets at 00:00 UTC. Each refused call gets HTTP 429 with the error code daily_quota_exceeded, and the Retry-After header gives the seconds until the reset. Only successful calls count, and you are never charged.
How many calls will my project use?
Every successful request counts as one call, including location searches. A forecast for several locations (up to 50) counts one call per location. A dashboard that refreshes one location every hour uses 24 calls a day. You can track your calls on My API.
Do I need to credit Foreca?
Yes. Show the Foreca logo or the Foreca name with the weather data. See the logo and attribution requirements.
Which plan do I need for weather maps or pollen forecasts?
Weather maps are included from the paid Stratus plan, and pollen forecasts in the Cirrus plan. Compare the plans on the pricing page.
Can I upgrade to a paid plan and keep my API key?
Yes. Your API key stays the same when you move from Freemium to a paid plan.
